Window Painting

It’s long been a tradition in my family to paint our windows at Christmas time. The house we currently live in doesn’t have a good street-facing window for painting so I haven’t done it in about 6 years. This year, my daughter asked me to bring back the tradition, so I thought it was time. Just a simple one this year. Maybe next year we’ll go bigger.

A happy by-product is a lovely light projection on the dining room floor, just like a stained glass window ❤️.

I just use cheap watercolor paint and junky brushes on these. I use painters tape around the edges to keep the paint away from the edges and then water the paint down quite a bit. Obviously, paint doesn’t absorb into the glass, so the effect is more like big visible brushstrokes. It’s fun and meditative to work on. But a real bear to clean off after the fact. We’ll take it down once we get to Epiphany.
